Dixon Little League

Volunteering

Dixon Little League could not be the successful youth sport program if it wasn't for the dedicated volunteers throughout the years.

We appreciate any and all volunteers!

All Managers, Coaches, and any other persons who assists your team on a regular basis MUST have a completed volunteer application on file prior to assisting or helping with any teams. To complete the volunteer application for the background check, please check the interested position below. If you have any questions, please contact your division representative.

Here are a few of the important positions that always need volunteers.

MANAGERS AND COACHES:
We can't have a league without the important roles of supporting our players by providing them the fundamentals of the game and encouraging the the players overall. That should be the main goal for any interested Manager and Coach of Dixon Little League.
Per the rules set by Little League International, any interested manager or coach must be nominated by the President of the Board and officially voted in by the Board of Directors. If you have any questions about this process please review the Little League Rule book here:  https://www.littleleague.org/playing-rules/position-policy-statements/

TEAM PARENT:
Coaches need support too. Manager and coaches need to focus on teaching the fundamentals, practice and supporting our players. Consider being the Team Parent to ease some additional duties from them. Team Parent role supports the Manager and Coaches in communicating with families about overall team information, answering questions and team volunteering requirements.

During each season all teams must provide volunteers for scorekeeping during games and snack bar shifts outside of game times.
The Team Parent provides the dates needed to the families and verifies all times are covered. Team Parent is provided support from the Snack Bar Coordinator and the Division Representative on all items needed.

Please be sure to complete the background check by logging in with your registration information and choosing the volunteer opportunities.

SNACK BAR:
Dixon Little League snack bar has many fans with the players and families. Most don’t know that the snack bar provides approximately 50% of the leagues income - our success and ability to continue to provide a great experience for players is connected to the success of the snack bar. We can always use more help here!

Each team is responsible for 2-3 snack bar shifts per season. Three to four adults (no Children allowed except the pre-approved "for hire" teens) are allowed in the snack bar. Each snack bar shift is 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Training is provided to every new volunteer at the beginning of the shift. A trained Board Member will be present at the opening and closing of each shift, help count and close out the cash drawer, and be available for any questions or problems during any shift.

If you have a fifteen year old who has common knowledge of money/math, that are welcome to request consideration to be added to the approved teen list.

FIELD PREP:
For every game the home team will be responsible for field maintenance both before and after the game. Managers and coaches are busy getting players warmed up and prepared for the big game so this work is best completed by another volunteer. Field prep consists of support prior and after the game. Prior to the game the field needs to be brushed/dragged, chalk foul lines created, stencil of the batter box as well as water the field as needed. After the game the field needs to be brushed/dragged, trashed picked up as well as verify dug outs are cleaned. The items to prepare the field are provided by the league, just need your assistance so managers and coaches can warm up the players.

SCORE KEEPER:
Starting at AA Division it’s imperative there are volunteers for scorekeeper and scoreboard at every baseball game. If your child is approaching or currently at these older divisions it’s important to know how to participate in score keeping. Each team will be responsible for these tasks if they are the home team, however, we always need last minute volunteers to fill in. Training will be provided at the beginning of every season for these positions but additional training is provided as needed if you reach out prior to the game. Contact [email protected] for training.

UMPIRE:

A baseball game is not kept in order without the much needed umpires. The umpire is the person charged with officiating the game, including beginning and ending the game, enforcing the rules of the gam and the grounds, making judgement calls on plays, and handling the disciplinary actions. Consider becoming a part of these professional group by attending one of the umpire trainings and learning the rules. New umpires are tasked for lower division games until approved for higher age groups. We are always looking for interested adults and kids starting at 11 years old to be trained for this position. Contact [email protected] for more info.
